Mobile Beef Lab

UNL Mobile Beef Lab

A new addition to the 2012 Heart City Bull Bash will be the presence of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Extension Mobile Beef Lab located on Main Street on Saturday, February 11.  The lab will present science principles by teaching about the ruminant animal, its complexities and what makes the ruminant unique in the environment and ecosystem.  The accompanying goal is to teach Nebraskans the value of animal agriculture and create support for the beef industry and the high quality protein it provides.

The lab is a 19 foot trailer with mobile teaching laboratories for one animal and lab components, such as a microscope, TV and computer.  The Mobile Beef Lab can offer curriculum that includes:  rumen anatomy and physiology, symbiotic relationships, how the animal and microorganisms rely on each other for survivability, rumen pH and buffering mechanisms, the role of microorganisms in digestion, plant growth and physiology, Nebraska livestock and why they are important to Nebraska landscapes and the importance of animals as a protein source for human nutrition.

Take this opportunity to check out the Mobile Beef Lab and add this educational opportunity to all of the fun activities that are part of the Bull Bash!!
